"Escape" This Pandemic

It’s been a few months since I’ve gotten around to writing a new blog post. Life has been a little on the crazy side. From challenging classes at work, to exhaustion and nausea from pregnancy, to now a worldwide pandemic, I would have to say life has really taken a toll on me these last few months...to say the least.

It has now been 19 days (minus one trip to Trader Joe’s and 2 trips to my OB) since I've self-quarantined. At the beginning of my self-quarantine, I was probably the most stressed I have ever been in my life.  The combination of the early stages of being stir crazy and all of the unknowns about this virus was already starting to wear on me.

After a few days of cabin fever, fear, and stress, I realized that one of the “unknowns” was how long this pandemic would last. It could last weeks...or even months.

I knew I couldn't let my mind and body live in fear for who knows how long. For the sake of my sanity and my baby’s health, I had to change my mindset during this time. So that’s when I made the decision to try and put a positive spin on this horrible situation and take advantage of the time I have at home. To survive, I needed days to look forward to and something to keep my mind off the negatives.

With the free time that I have, I decided to put my focus on activities and hobbies that make me happy and excited each day. After making a long list of things that would motivate me, I was able to narrow down what I would like to focus my energy on during this unpredictable time:

1.      Stay active and healthy.
2.      Spend a lot of time with my husband and dog.
3.      Prepare for baby’s arrival.
4.      Cook more.
5.      Post new blog posts.
6.      Reminisce about previous trips abroad.
7.      Watch vlogs and documentaries about travel.
8.      Read books about travel.
9.      Keep an eye out for cheap flights for September on Google Flights.
10.    Add to Nomatic Matt Forum (travel forum).

Though this pandemic and its affects will be in the back of my mind everyday, I plan to put more of my focus on these activities and hobbies that I really enjoy these next few weeks (or months). The mind is a powerful thing, and during scary times like these, we must stay mentally strong to get through.

UP NEXT: A blog post that includes travel, awesome Food eaten while traveling, and cooking.

Stay Safe,
Veronica
