Don't Overlook These Incredible Views in Ireland

Sometimes when we tour a new place, we get so caught up with our itinerary that we forget to look up and take in the surroundings. Like many travelers, I sometimes become so determined to check off every site, museum, and landmark on my itinerary (in which I spent countless hours carefully creating before the trip) that the trip turns into more work instead of leisure.

However, in Ireland, I was able to find that leisure and enjoyment again when I finally decided to look around me and see the incredible 360 degree view at the top of Blarney Castle. I remember walking the very top of the castle after kissing Blarney Stone and freezing when my eyes caught the view out in front of me. After being in awe for quite some time, I remember thinking to myself that this would be one of those views I would never forget. It also dawned on me that I most likely missed out on many amazing views (similar to the one right in front of me) before this moment as I frantically crossed off my itinerary. I recall telling myself that that I would not miss another view.  Wherever I go, I wanted to take it ALL in. And I did...for the rest of this trip (and the trips to follow), I would see as much as my eyes would let me.

Here are 5 places in Ireland with amazing views that I ALMOST overlooked:

1. Blarney Castle (Cork)

2. St. Colman's Cathedral (Cobh)

3. Kilkenny Castle (Kilkenny)

4. Rock Of Cashel (Tipperary)

5. Sky Road (Clifden)

Ya know, maybe we don't need an itinerary...at all. Anthony Bourdain once said:

"...Letting the happy accident happen is what a lot of vacation itineraries miss, I think, and I'm always trying to push people to allow those things to happen rather than stick to some rigid itinerary."

Could we get the best travel experience if we don't have an agenda? After all, the enjoyment in travel isn't all about crossing off those "must-see" attractions on the itinerary.  It's about the people, the food, and those breathtaking views that give you that indescribable feeling, a feeling you know you will never forget.

Regardless of which route you choose (itinerary or no itinerary), make sure to take in each and every view and that feeling that comes with it. You will hold onto that forever.

Safe Travels,
Veronica
