Add This Item to Your Travel Packing Checklist

Canal. Venice, Italy.

Clifden, Ireland.
Very few (if any) travel packing checklists have “scarf” listed as an essential item to bring for when you travel. For me, it only took one trip to realize that a scarf should not only be on my personal travel packing list, but in my top ten items to bring on every trip. Each trip I have taken thus far, I have packed a scarf and found so many benefits of having one on hand. Whether it was a light wool scarf, or a fashionable linen infinity scarf, I've discovered that a simple scarf can be extremely versatile, and therefore a necessity when traveling. Here’s why you, too, should be bringing a scarf on every trip you take:

1) They’re fashionable.

Scarves can spice up almost any outfit. Bring one with a neutral color and basic print so you can wear it (and look cute) with any travel outfit ranging from your airport scrubs to that cocktail dress you want to wear for a nice dinner out. Plus, with the 100+ ways out there to tie a scarf, finding a new style that suits each outfit won’t be hard.  It will be near impossible to get bored and sick of wearing it.

     2) It keeps you warm.

Ok, this one is obvious. Honestly though, you’ll be surprised how much a scarf can keep you warm when walking around outside, sightseeing on the colder days/nights abroad (wherever that may be). For me, I especially noticed a difference in how warm I stayed in Denmark in the middle of December when I wore my simple scarf.  If need be, use your scarf as a blanket or shawl on the plane or when walking around on the chillier evenings when you’re out and about exploring.

Nyhavn.
Copenhagen, Denmark.

    3) It can be used for more purposes other than a scarf.

Use it as a pillow on the plane. Use it for extra cushioning to pack souvenirs in your carry-on. Use it for protection from the sun. It has so many purposes! These purposes alone are were reason enough for me to take a scarf on all of my trips.

Letná Zahradní Restaurace.
Prague, Czech Republic.

If these 3 reasons aren't enough, why not take one because...well...

    4) Why not?

A scarf is an extra item of clothing that doesn’t feel like an extra item of clothing. It can be worn at any time, or packed with no regrets since it weighs almost nothing and takes very little room.

Big Ben.
London, England.

Now...before you forget, go write "scarf" on your own travel packing checklist. You will be thankful you did when you take your next trip. It will come in handy at some point. Trust me.

Safe Travels,
